Il CASTT collabora con l’ITTF

dall’ITTF

Buona lettura.

It may seem unbelievable for those of us who are fortunate enough to live in highly developed countries and $50 for an entry fee for a table tennis tournament or $100 to buy new rubbers for a table tennis racket is not going the break the bank.

However, even in the highly technological age of the 21st century, there are countries in the world where the entry for the tournament cannot be paid.

Food More Important
The reason is that money is needed for food or the bat rubber cannot be purchased because it represent over half a month’s salary.

Each year the International Table Tennis Federation donates every year over 30 equipment packages to national associations, it may sound a great deal but demand always exceeds supply.

Extra Help
Extra help is needed and at the recently concluded GAC 2011 World Table Tennis Championships in Rotterdam the ITTF Development made an agreement with Co-operation and Services in Table Tennis (CASTT). The organisation is an Italian non-governmental body whose role is to create a network among small clubs to exchange technical information and experiences plus also paying attention to social needs.

In Rotterdam Roberto Castiglioni from CASTT met Leandro Olvech and Polona Susin from the ITTF Development Department.

Motto
“By connecting people, we help fulfill a fundamental human need for social connections and contact. CASTT builds bridges between people; both when they are far apart and face-to-face and also bridges the gap between people and the information they need”, is the CASTT motto.

In Love with Table Tennis
“We are four musketeers extremely in love with table tennis”, said Roberto Castiglioni. “We understand that forums and internet blogs provide information, motivate brainstorming but there is no follow up; there is no communication between clubs and players and especially there are no exchange programmes between small clubs that need to find coaches, didactic material or coaching videos.”

Next Step
CSATT has provided the next step.

“We have created this non profit making group, we collect information about sparring partners, car sharing, whatever”, continued Roberto Castiglioni. “Everything we believe a player or club needs to know; CASTT is a big family where we try to share and help each other.”

In many ways that is also the role of the ITTF Development Department.

Fruitful Meeting
“It was a very fruitful meeting where many ideas were discussed, their intention is to collect used and new equipment; that has already started and is being sent it to developing countries through the ITTF Development Department”, explained Leandro Olvech “Also we will use CASTT to involve children and create a conscience about the needs in various regions of the world; we also discussed about the possibility to create a network where the Italians can provide direct support to a specific child, the idea looks superb but we have to investigate a way to implement it, as it means a significant logistics and databases work being needed.”

No doubt a solution will be found.

Organise Donations
“Why to organize donations; how much equipment do we buy, use for a while and we leave stored at home?” enthused Roberto Castiglioni. “How many children or players we can make happy with a small donation; the only thing I can tell you from the heart is that I am proud to be in love with table tennis.”

Proud and delighted to be in Rotterdam.

Seeking Autographs
“For sure one of the happiest of children in Rotterdam was Roberto´s son Lorenzo; both received a pass to go backstage and Lorenzo was extremely excited when we went to the dining room that was full of players”, explained Leandro Olvech. “When I asked him if there was anyone’s autograph is particular he would like, he answered: all of them; I could quie manage that but he finished with plenty of signatures on his baseball cap!”

It seems table tennis blood runs in the family!

Good Combination
“Lorenzo was excited collecting autographs”, concluded Leandro Olvech. “The son has elite players in his mind, the father assistance and solidarity.”

Surely a very good combination.
